Boy Bedroom Update (Part Four)

I’m hoping this will be the final ‘Boy Bedroom Update’ before the big reveal! It feels like we are making very slow progress but actually, because we can’t get the carpet fitted until 13th October, we are not in a desperate hurry at this stage. I just want to make sure we are using the time to get things right rather than rushing and leaving our finishes looking like they need work!

All the painting is complete now and I am SO pleased with how it’s all worked out. I am in love with the panelling and I’m so glad we went for it. We slightly altered our original plan in order to accommodate all the furniture that has to go in the room but I think it has worked out great and I’m glad we didn’t rush in and make a mistake. (I will post a full how-to on the panelling and the curtains in the next few weeks).

The curtains are hanging but they have yet to be hemmed. I’m giving them a few days to ‘drop’ and we are awaiting the carpet to see where the exact floor level will be.

The carpet is being fitted on Tuesday and I can’t wait to see how it looks. We ordered it so long ago, I can barely remember what we chose so fingers crossed it will fit in with everything else o.k!

We have ordered a few finishing touches – pictures and frames etc. I have tried to keep the costs down as much as possible and actually, we have done pretty well at sourcing things below our budget which is a good feeling!

I’m teasing you here with these pictures, I’m sorry to keep you hanging for so long! These things always take longer than I anticipate! I’m just going to check off that list one more time (purely for my personal pleasure!)

  • Order Carpet
  • Order / Buy Paint
  • Order wood for panelling
  • Order trim for panelling
  • Sell wardrobe and chest of drawers
  • Paint remaining chest of drawers
  • Sell guest bed and mattress
  • Move desk, bedside cabinets and bookcase into new guest room
  • Remove curtains and curtain pole
  • Remove picture hooks
  • Fill holes from hooks and curtain pole
  • Fit ‘faux’ panelling
  • Paint walls
  • Paint panelling
  • Paint door and skirting
  • Order/make new curtains
  • Order rug and accessories
  • Hang curtain pole and new curtains
  • Have carpet fitted
  • Move bed, desk and bookcases from our son’s current bedroom to the new one
  • Swap contents of wardrobe and storage cupboards between old and new bedroom
  • Hang pictures

Just a few more items to cross off now and we’ll be there. I am quite looking forward to having things straight again upstairs. Decorating one room seems to have impacted every other room on our upper level! I have a sneaky suspicion we won’t be resting on our laurels for long though. Our daughter is in love with the panelling and very keen for us to get going with the same look in her room!! She has it all planned out – eek!

If you missed them, catch up with the Boy Bedroom updates: Part One, Part Two and Part Three.

Thanks Louise, we have spent today moving our little man’s belongings into his new room and I have just settled him down into bed. He’s so excited, I’m not sure he will be doing any sleeping any time soon! 😉
